Unique fertility challenges facing athletes

While age and pre-existing conditions are two of the biggest factors impacting fertility in men and women, professional athletes can face unique fertility challenges due to the impact high-performance sports training and competition can have on their bodies.

Athletes may experience significant weight loss, endure high intensity exercise and a high degree of physical or psychosocial stress - all factors that may impact their reproductive health.

Fertility challenges may include menstrual dysfunction, the absence of ovulation, and an increased incidence of osteoporosis and fracture risk.

With over 50 years of experience and over 50,000 babies delivered, Monash IVF are well placed to support you with evidence-based information and guidance in every state and capital territory in Australia.
