Fertility options for same-sex female couples
For couples where neither partner produces sperm, fertility treatment may involve donor sperm and one of the following options:
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
IUI involves placing donor sperm directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. It may be suitable if one partner has regular ovulation and no known fertility concerns.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
IVF involves fertilising an egg with donor sperm in the laboratory before transferring an embryo into the uterus. IVF may be recommended based on age, fertility history or personal preference.
Reciprocal IVF (Shared Motherhood)
Reciprocal IVF allows one partner to provide the eggs while the other carries the pregnancy. This option enables both partners to have a biological and physical connection to the pregnancy journey.
Fertility options for same-sex male couples
For couples where neither partner produces eggs or can carry a pregnancy, fertility treatment typically involves both an egg donor and a gestational surrogate.
Monash IVF works closely with intended parents to explain:
- Egg donor options
- The IVF process
- Surrogacy pathways available under Australian law
- Medical, counselling and legal considerations
Our team ensures all steps are undertaken ethically, transparently and in line with local regulations.
Donor conception at Monash IVF
We offer access to donor programs with a strong focus on safety, transparency and the future wellbeing of donor-conceived children.
All donor arrangements include:
- Thorough medical screening
- Genetic testing where appropriate
- Mandatory counselling
- Compliance with Australian legislation and state-based requirements
Our specialists will help you understand donor options and guide you through the process with care and clarity.
Emotional and psychological support
We recognise that fertility treatment—especially when navigating donor conception or surrogacy—can be complex and emotionally demanding.
