Meet Pregs

Dr Pregs Pillay is an Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, Sonologist and Fertility Specialist at Monash IVF, consulting at Cremorne and East Melbourne, with over 30 years of experience in women's reproductive health.

Like many doctors, Dr Pillay rotated through the full range of specialties early in his career, but delivering his first baby settled it. He has since built his career around fertility, pregnancy, gynaecology and diagnostic ultrasound.

Dr Pillay is highly qualified, having completed his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1990 before undertaking his postgraduate specialist training at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne. He went on to work across Monash Medical Centre, the Mercy Hospital and the Royal Women's Hospital, and holds Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG), a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) and a Masters of Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales. Over his career he has delivered more than 8,000 babies and cared for patients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

Ultrasound has been central to how he practises throughout. Holding the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU), Dr Pillay is a qualified Sonologist and uses imaging at every consultation, both to guide clinical decisions and to give patients something tangible at each visit. Watching a baby's heartbeat on screen, he believes, is one of the most reassuring things medicine can offer. At Monash IVF and Monash Ultrasound for Women, Dr Pillay brings both specialties together at the Cremorne site.

Outside of medicine, he has three grown children, follows the Carlton Blues, and will always find the biggest screen for a good sci-fi.
