Dr Fiona Cowell
Dr Fiona Cowell is an obstetrician, gynaecologist and fertility specialist based in Fitzroy, Victoria. Dr Cowell specialises in high and low risk obstetrics as well as infertility. She loves the experience of caring for women and their families at such an exciting time in their lives. She provides specialised care with warmth and compassion.
Dr Cowell developed a love of obstetrics when she was a medical student. She was privileged to have the opportunity to work in a Tanzanian hospital where she saw the difference that great care can make in women's lives. That passion translated into the Queen Victoria Hospital prize in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in her final year of medical school at Monash University.
After an intern year at Box Hill Hospital and then working at the Royal Women's hospital in Neonatology for a year, Dr Cowell commenced her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Royal Women's Hospital in 2000. Her training included time at The Geelong and Northern Hospitals and was completed at the Mercy Hospital for Women where she was appointed as a consultant Obstetrician on completion. Her final 12 months of training involved a fellowship year in Infertility.
Dr Cowell spent ten years at the Mercy where she loved the complexity of high risk cases as well as the teaching and mentoring roles. Dr Cowell is currently engaged in training the next generation of medical students from Melbourne University. Fiona attends conferences and seminars regularly to remain up to date with the latest research both in Australia and overseas.
She is passionate about providing the best model of care possible for women. Dr Cowell is married with 3 kids and 2 dogs, a cat and several chooks. When not working, Fiona loves swimming, sailing and hanging out with her family. She is also a member of the School Board at her children's school.
