One in Six

Fertility issues are more common than many people realise. One in six Australian couples will struggle with infertility, and one in 20 Australian babies are born from IVF.

Despite all of this, fertility struggles are still a taboo topic; one many people don’t know how to talk about.

That’s why we developed our new campaign, One in Six, which aims to normalise the conversations around fertility issues.

We sat down with six of our patients at different stages of their fertility journey. They bravely opened up about coming to terms with their own fertility struggles in order to help others feel less alone.

Male infertility in particular is often overlooked, and yet at least 30% of fertility challenges in a reproductive couple are due to male factors. One in Six doesn’t shy away from this – instead, the men we interviewed really opened up, acknowledging that all genders can and do struggle with infertility.

One in Six is an insight into the bravery it takes to embark on your fertility journey, and demonstrates that no matter what your role is; a patient, a support person, or a loved one, you can be brave too by starting the conversation about fertility issues.

Our patients often refer to their fertility journey as an “emotional roller coaster”. Interwoven feelings of hope, uncertainty, excitement, anxiety, optimism and heartbreak are experienced each step of the way.

One in Six aims to shed light on the emotional journey our patients go through. In this clip, our patients share how they feel, how they cope, and what advice they would give to those thinking about embarking on their own fertility journey.

One of the reasons fertility issues aren’t often spoken about is that it can be challenging to know how to even start the conversation with a loved one that is struggling to conceive. We want to provide support, but it can be difficult to know how. Our hope is that One in Six can help loved ones understand how you can best support our patients on their fertility journeys. In this clip, our patients share their advice for supporting a loved one, and also supporting yourself.
