At your first appointment, your specialist will conduct a fertility health check. Have a read of what to expect here.

You need a current referral letter from your GP or specialist medical practitioner by the time of your appointment. This ensures you’re eligible for Medicare rebates. It’s up to you if you get this referral before or after you make an appointment. It needs to have your name, your partner’s name (if applicable) and be specifically referring you to Monash IVF and/or the fertility specialist you’re seeing.

Monash IVF tip:

Ask your GP for an “indefinite referral” instead of one that lasts three-12 months. This saves you the hassle of repeat GP visits to update your referral. Having a valid referral during treatment means you’ll always receive the maximum Medicare rebate.

In your first appointment, your fertility specialist will take an in-depth medical history, including any previous specialist consultations you’ve undertaken. They’ll talk you through possible treatments and outcomes, and may refer you for some specific medical tests.

Remember - many of our patients have a baby without needing IVF treatment. Our goal is to get you there as quickly and easily as possible.
