Monash IVF started the world’s first donor program in 1975. Our donor team provide a compassionate, personalised service for patients using donor eggs, sperm, embryos and undergoing surrogacy arrangements.

Our donor team plays a critical role in helping your fertility treatment with donor gametes run smoothly. They collaborate with your doctor, counsellor, nurses and genetics team to ensure your donor is suitable for your requirements. Our donor team are experienced in assisting diverse types of patients through the process of using donor eggs, sperm and embryos.

Donor team plays a role in ensuring that the donor is suitable for recipients – health, medical etc. We are here for the donor selection, or work up of known donors.

Someone to talk through your donor options with. – often people are going on this journey by themselves, if you want someone to bounce ideas and thoughts off, we are here. The donor team wants the best for you, and want you to feel comfortable and confident in your decision of donor.

Role of the donor team in your fertility journey

Our donor team works with you to choose the right donor for you and your personal requirements. This can involve:

  • Talking through donor profiles with you.
  • Helping you choose a donor that aligns with your requirements.
  • Explaining the donor recruitment process with you, including the various tests and counselling donors must undertake.
  • If you have genetics concerns - working with the genetics team to minimise the risk of passing this on to donor conceived children.

We understand how challenging the decision to use a donor can be. Our donor team are here to guide you, answer any of your questions and help you feel confident in your choice of donor.

Key responsibilities of our donor team

Our donor team are available to you before, during and after your treatment. They are with you on your journey and take pride in undertaking their responsibilities with empathy.

  • Creating donor profiles based on the information provided by donors.
  • Assisting with the transport of donor eggs, sperm and embryos from other locations to Monash IVF.
  • Monitoring donor family limits.
  • Recruitment of anonymous clinic-recruited donors.
  • Monitoring outcomes of donor conceived children.
  • Working up known donors to ensure they are suitable for their donor recipients.
  • Collaborating with nurses to ensure the donor sperm, eggs or embryos are ready for our patient’s cycle.
  • Assisting with surrogacy arrangements.
  • Collaborating with counsellors to ensure our patients have the right support and understanding of their chosen donor.
  • Acting as main point of contact for clinic recruited donors.
  • Collaborating with the genetics team to minimise risk of genetic issues for donor conceived children.
