Statement From Monash IVF

Monash IVF is committed to providing inclusive, affirming care to patients of all genders and sexualities, including people with an intersex variation.

Members of the intersex community have recently raised concerns with us about how we can do better to support intersex patients and the wider intersex community.

We want the intersex community and intersex allies to know that we take any concerns raised with us seriously.

We would like to clarify that there are individual situations where national medical regulations do not allow us to transfer embryos with specific conditions, where the testing has been requested by the patients undergoing treatment.

In the case of embryos with a sex chromosome variation identified on preimplantation genetic testing, a patient can request the transfer of that embryo with appropriate genetic counselling and support from their fertility specialist and our genetics team.

It is incredibly important to us to provide affirming care to intersex patients seeking fertility treatment and to the wider intersex community.

We acknowledge that the fertility industry has historically been a challenging area for intersex people to navigate and this can be the case today.

We are grateful for the feedback from intersex community advocates and would warmly welcome the opportunity to continue to engage with them to ensure we continue to improve our practices.
