Pharmacy Services – Queensland

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) medications may not always be readily available at your local pharmacy. The information below can be used to assist you in sourcing the medications suitable for your treatment.

IVF Pharmacy Services provide medications required for your treatment to ensure prompt access in obtaining your medications. Please read the below information carefully and if you have any questions, please contact one of our nursing team or your Fertility Specialist.

Should you choose an alternate pharmacy provider please ensure the following:

  • Menopur – Needle accessory pack is provided.
  • Melatonin and Naltrexone – This medication needs to be specially compounded and is not available off the shelf. Please allow 2-5 business days for preparation.
  • Puregon – That you receive your reusable injection pen. The pen and medication are not routinely dispensed together.
  • Luveris and Prolutex – Is dispensed with powder and water that requires mixing. To do this the pharmacy will need to provide the following equipment per dose.
    1. 3ml syringe
    2. 19G drawing up needle
    3. 27G injection needle
  • Growth Hormone – That you receive your reusable injection pen. This medication is not covered on the PBS Section 100 IVF Program. Please contact the pharmacy for price information as it may cost a few hundred dollars to purchase.

If you would like to collect medications from a pharmacy not listed below, please ensure you call the pharmacy to check they have this medication in stock. Some pharmacies may not routinely stock this medication and may have to order it, which may take several days.

Please always double check with your pharmacist upon dispensing that you have received all the necessary injection equipment required for the self-administration of your medication. Please contact your nurse if you are unsure.

It is important that you keep track of your supply of medications for the duration of your treatment. If your stock is low or you will not have enough for the weekend, please ensure additional prescriptions are requested during clinic hours.

To assist our pharmacies in the organisation of your injections and medication, please contact the appropriate pharmacy one week prior to when you are to collect. Please note that Monash IVF requires IVF patients to pay their first cycle instalment prior to medication collection and our pharmacies require a pharmacy notification as proof of payment before dispensing.

IVF Pharmacy Services offer a courier service directly to your door. To arrange this, please contact the Clinic and a representative from IVF Pharmacy Services will contact you to arrange the courier and payment of your medications over the phone. There is a fee for this service, please discuss this directly with IVF Pharmacy Services.
